A letter to my Mum
Now that I am a Mum myself I realise how much you gave up for me. The sleepless nights you had ensuring I was fed, comforted and loved. The stressful days where you wanted to get things done but you couldn’t because I needed something. The financial worries of counting the pennies to ensure you had enough for our milk and nappies. I wanted to say thank you for all that you sacrificed and did for me and Hannah, for that I will always be grateful.
I also want to apologise. Sorry for getting annoyed if you didn’t give me what I wanted, even though you were trying to teach me self-discipline. Sorry for cursing you when you made us do housework, even though you were trying to teach us life-skills. Sorry for thinking you didn’t love me when you told me off, even though you were just trying to teach us manners and sharing. Your balance of love, support and discipline made us well-rounded individuals who respect others and work hard. You and Dad showed us what it was to treat people with kindness and to say please and thank you.
I hope that as Ivy grows we can teach her the same lessons that you taught us. I know there will be some arguments, eye rolls and tears, but now I know it will all be worth it in the future when she realises the importance of the lessons we teach her, all because her Nanny and Grandad made the effort to teach her Mummy those same lessons.
I love you so much,
Jess x
